Scaly, Itchy, Dry Skin – Sorted!

Arid skin is usually lacking in lipids through the outermost layer of the skin (stratum corneum). Skin is an organ that is very much taken for granted, yet it is our front line defence against environmental damage (not to mention that it keeps all our organs, veins and muscles on the inside!).

When you become unwell, take medications longer than short term, suffer from a number of medical conditions, or you just love being outside, enjoy swimming, running, sitting in the sun with friends – continual exposure to the sun (or just chronological aging) can result in a stripped out barrier.

Skin with a compromised barrier function can not hold hydration. It just falls back out after application. This is termed TEWL (trans epidermal water loss). A healthy barrier holds hydration in your skin for longer and enables a healthy protected mid layer.

Doctors address this with their ‘fatty cream’ – it’s a chemically derived way of creating a barrier (with waxes – parafin to be specific) and it’s an unpleasant experience.

The next step along from having a stripped out stratum corneum is irritation (itchiness), following often by inflammation, which triggers scratching (then enter bacteria from your fingernails and you have a problem). Doctors address this itchiness with steroids – to stop your body’s immune defence from producing inflammation. They do not address the inflammation at all. The problem with this approach is that the steriod cream makes the entire problem worse… then you get a stronger steroid. It’s nuts.

We recommend you start with Moringa Barrier Repair twice daily for at least a week, which contains NZ Grass Fed Tallow to restore lipids quickly & create the occulsion (barrier) you need to hold hydration in; moringa oil to start working on inflammation in the skin causing the itching, shea butter for antioxidant protection and apricot kernel oil to nourish fragile skin (and create a beautiful texture).

Then introduce Moringa Healing Lotion. Apply it twice daily morning and night, overlayering Moringa Barrier Repair just in the evening.

Pretty soon, you’ll feel that your skin doesn’t need Moringa Barrier Repair as frequently – continue with moringa Healing Lotion from that point onward.
